When we to hospital/clinic, a doctor will always said to us, preventive is better than cure. Why? why should we prevent something? Why it is better than cure it? If it already happen, how to prevent it, what to prevent, and why we put preventive measure when we should cure?
Well, in medical, if it is already happen, we try to prevent it from getting worse, we try to prevent it from infecting others and we try to prevent it from taking lives. Yes, we do cure, but once we prevent it, what ever medicine we gave should help to cure it better. But it is better to prevent it from happen anyway. We could save money, time, etc.
That is medical term... and used in medical environment. What about others? Is it we do detection and cure it, or we prevent it first, than detect if there is abnormal actions that re-act on the prevention measurements that cause us to upgrade or improve our prevention method.
For example, last few days, there were reports from KOSMO, clearly indicates the status of HALAL of a factory that produce food has expired in 2003 and the environment of the factory is damn worst.... should not be called as factory... a dump-side is better word. Where is the detection mechanism used by JAKIM and other bodies (Ministry of Health, KPDNHEP, etc) that should do regular checking @ detection on all factory that has HALAL certificates or produce food and beverages? What are they doing? Shouldn't they prevent it before getting worse? Why must wait for formal reports from people? Don't they have a system to monitor the expiration of HALAL certifications? Don't they have a system that keep track all factory that they should have some kind of spot-check and alert them on the time to make spot-check? That company has abuse a lot of rules and has making profit for 5 years and what the get is just a compound of RM1000 and 2 week closed. Come on la... This is a serious offends. Don't know how many people has eat the taufu and has affected by all kind of bacteria (that don't react yet) and what they get is just THAT.
Another example of our bad habit of not preferring preventive measurement is road safety related issues. Last month, an express bus (from the same company that was not allowed to run the business for 2 months due to another road accident), involves in an accident. What is shocked (so call shock by the news paper, and perhaps PDRM and JPJ) is the driver has more than 10 summons and a warrant, and the bus has also more than 10 summons. What the hell is the bus still allowed to be operated and the driver still can drive? Where are PDRM and JPJ? Shouldn't they have a system to track all this? Shouldn't the system alert them and force them to do regular check and arrest or hold the bus from being operated? Where is KPDNHEP and LPKP that should prevent us from taking that kind of bus with personnality of crazy driver, using their power/rules by stoping the bus and that company from operate? Where is the PREVENTION? All they can think is to introduce new rules (people sitting behind must wear seat belt) that did not help at all in reducing road accident. Why can't they think of rules that reduce road accident which it is the major concern rather that small item that does not provide any significants in preventing road accident. Why can't they prevent road accident first before prevent injuries causes by road accident? Why they lost focus of making the journey and road safe?
Another example is moral of our teenagers. We prevent the teacher from doing necessary action to discipline our child and what we don't see and should prevent is the attitude of our child nowadays. We only detect what ever teacher did although the result is for our own good. What happen now? Can we cure? Is it easy or difficult to cure? It is now damn hard to cure this social issues. Youngster are now more freely and more actively doing something that they should not do at their age and teachers can't say anything. Thanks to Mom and Dad that do the unnecessary prevention and failed to detect the necessary actions.
Well, a normal bloggers, and normal people like me, I can't changed the world. But I can change myself, my family, and anyone closed to me. I can only use word and heart and doa @ pray to Allah as my power is limited to small group (family and friends).
What I hope is that all related bodies, rulers, etc do more PREVENTIVE action rather than DETECT and CURE as it might be too late once we detect and we won't be able to cure as much as possible with no prevention mechanism in place.
